Ignorance: A Key to Success

by Chris on June 5, 2010

When I flashback to when I first started using Social Media, I remember being worried self-conscious about the things I said online, and how others would perceive me. I would lend extra worry to what people from my past thought about my blog, and I made it a point to keep my blog a secret. Those feelings were two-fold when I started Atlanta Insurance Live, a rather off the wall approach to selling insurance.

One time, I had a client tell me he thought that what I was doing was over the top. But he became a client

I guess my point is that holding back because of what others might say or think, will do nothing but hold you back. While there will always be critics, there will always be supporters. Some of these supporters will turn into brand advocates for your business. Getting a brand advocate is like scoring double, and their value is enough to cancel out the critics.

Well said Chris! I like that term “brand advocates”. I am going to have to put that in the vocabulary.

Thanks Matt! I've learned a lot these past few years about setting aside my fears of what other people think of me. It's something I've struggled with for a long time, and I know a lot of other people feel the same way. Anyway, I've recently put my blinders on and it's amazing to find (and meet) people who will show amazing support for a business, idea, or cause. In business, it's the brand advocate… and the sooner we let go of the critics, the faster the cream rises to the top.
